Ford once decided to go through five different colors of “Champagne”in a nine year period. But wait, it gets worse. For 1963, Comets were painted in “old” Champagne for some reason, and full size Mercury were “new” Champagne. It doesn’t stop there. M1459 (the “new”) was rolled out briefly in ‘62 as “Castillian gold”, and on ‘63 Lincolns the code was “polynesian gold”.
So, Champagne isn’t Champagne, but other things are Champagne despite being Not-Champagne. If you buy them in the spring.
Of course ‘69/’70 Champagne Gold is not even similar. Nor is ‘77 Champagne. ‘79 Lincoln Dark Champagne and ‘80/’81 Lincoln Dark Champagne are totally different from one another as well, with the later being kind of a weird watered down port color. “Light Champagne” looks a little bit like mid-60's Champagne.
Ford, where the hell have you been buying your wine?

Ford probably thinks you can buy Champagne from California

I think they’ve been drinking champagne and then color sampling their pee. ‘80/’81 there were some kidney stones.

They
would
think something like that. Only happy cows come from California, though.

The California cows are certainly happier than B1G-country cows after this bowl season.

“Champaign”: Another name for beige. Nobody gives a crap what variant it is, it’s still beige.

The happiest cows on Earth (as far as I’ve seen) come from San Juan Island, WA. It’s the only place I’ve seen cows frolic.

The should have painted their trucks in a version called Brut. Missed marketing opportunity.

I’m willing to give it some slack for being brighter gold than a modern metallic beige and for being on cars before beige was the default. I’m also puzzled why Ford would think it was important to keep tweaking their exact shade of beige just enough to piss paint and body men right the fuck off.

Yes, but stupid milk product ads.

The intersection of Manly Dadscent of Brut and Manly Dadcar of most of the fullsizers on the list does seem like it would work.

Everyone does this, but it’s surprising they did it for a color that theoretically wasn’t that popular.
Are you trying to restore a car? At that age, I’d think that you’d need to completely repaint to get it to all match.

Is that the Windows XP hill in the background?!
Having seen actual California farms, this is absolutely not what farming looks like there.

Full concours restoration is not in the cards. Mostly, this is me finding an explanation for why there happened to be a mismatch between the original and the respray done a long time ago... while looking for touchup paint. The explanation seems to be that Ford was huffing paint at the same time as color coding it.

I think the Champagne Brut exterior should have been paired with an Irish Spring interior.

You joke, but the fabric inserts on the (champagne gold vinyl) seats of my Galaxie are white
and Irish Spring green.
Or nearly so.

Some of the color washed out when I took this picture for some reason, but the texture of the cloth is almost like terrycloth, and some of the stripes are or were a more vibrant, hilarious ‘60s green:
If having a car with wacky grandpa bathrobe seats is wrong, I don’t want to be right.
